The physical eyes of Adam and Eve were already open. That is not what Satan was promising. He was promising spiritual enlightenment. Satan still does that today. He promises to give people special insight or knowledge that others don’t have, or have access to.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 says:
3 “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
7 Examples of Satan’s Lies About Enlightenment:
1. Mormons
The put most of their trust for enlightenment in the Book of Mormon. The Bible is not as important.
2. Jehovah’s Witnesses
“Most people don’t know what God’s real name is.” “Through the WATCHTOWER Jehovah’s Witnesses have enjoyed special enlightenment and direction.” (75 Watchtower Society Yearbook)
3. The Roman Catholic Church
Only Peter was given the keys to the kingdom of God - only we have the truth. Only the Pope can interpret the scriptures properly for us.
4. Christian Science
“There is .. no intelligent sin, evil mind or matter: and this is the only true philosophy and realism.”
5. 7th-Day Adventists
Those that worship on Sunday have received the Mark of the Beast. Only those that worship on the Sabbath are the true flock. We only have been given the truth through the inspired writings of Ellen G. White.
6. The New Age Movement
Channeling - spiritism - astrology - ESP – clairvoyance - Religious aim: “to achieve the state of unity or oneness with God (enlightenment)” “Enlightenment is important because men exist in a state of ignorance as to their divine nature.”
7. Church of Christ
They are taught all other churches have departed from the N.T. faith – through the special enlightenment of their leaders, they want to get back to the true faith.
